Description:
Aquitania is one of the 13 towns of Sugamuxi's province.

Town's full size= 876 km2, the biggest of Sugamuxi (double the size of Antigua and Barbuda).

Main economic activities: Agriculture, livestock, and tourism.

Aquitania was named after the province of Aquitaine (France). Its previous name was "Pueblo Viejo" (Old Town).

The largest town in Sugamuxi in terms of area is Aquitania which has the privilege of sharing space with lake Tota. It is renowned for its onion farms, trout fishing, and striking scenery.
 How to get here:
By bus: From Sogamoso's bus terminal, nearly every half hour, through route1 Sogamoso - Crucero - Aquitania, or route2 Sogamoso - Iza - Cuitiva - Tota - Aquitania. There is also a bus stop at Puente Pesca's corner, center of Sogamoso.

​By car
: Follow the route1 or route 2 above, 30/40 km distance from Sogamoso.

Main attractions:
  • Lake Tota, known as the "lake in the clouds",
    • impressive scenery, biggest lake in Colombia, IBA (important bird area), and 3015 m high
  • Authentic restaurants serving famous trout,​ trucha, dishes and onion soup, both native to the area
  • Hotels and guesthouses surrounding the lake
  • Trekking the high-land páramos of Aquitania, a magnificent way to experience the ecosystems and to get a distinct high-altitude view of lake Tota
  • Views up close of the rural farming industry and meticulous farming methods
