Its watershed ranges from 3,015 (water level) to 3,900 m high.
Lake Tota is the largest freshwater lake in Colombia, with a water surface of aprx. 60 km2 in a watershed of 210 km2. It is also the 2nd highest navigable lake in South America (after Lake Titicaca in Perú & Bolivia). It is water-fed from the páramos, a worldwide unique ecosystem that is only found in 6 countries in the whole world - among which Colombia has the major area (50%).
