Description:
Tota is one of the 13 towns of Sugamuxi's province.

Town's full size= 216 km2 (half the size of Barbados).

Main economic activities: Agriculture, livestock, mining and tourism.

According to Muisca culture and language, "Tota" means: Astronomic Observatory or Mirror of the Cosmos

Tota is a tiny town with an ancient, well-kept rural culture. It shares boundaries with lake Tota and is special for its unique Andean scenery and playa blanca, a fresh water white sand beach.
How to get here:
By bus: From Sogamoso's bus terminal, every hour. There is a bus stop also at Puente Pesca's corner (center of Sogamoso).

By car: Follow the route Sogamoso - Iza - Cuitiva - Tota. It takes around 30 min.

Main attractions:
  • The town itself, is a simple example of day-to-day living, people, and local architecture of rural Colombia. Visit the main square and soak up the culture.
  • Playa Blanca, or white beach, in lake Tota is a unique place with more than 13,000 acres of white sand. It is 3,015 m high. Camp, fish, and get in touch with your adventure side.
  • Scenery treks and trips, either around the lake or hiking to the surrounding mountains to encounter the páramos of Tota.
  • Taste the trucha or smoked trout from the fresh Lake Tota.
