artisans

You can find artisans all around Sugamuxi. Some towns have specialized and are now well recognized for their handcraft markets (Nobsa and Iza). However, the truth is that craftsmanship is  a common ability spread all throughout our province. There is always good chance of finding really outstanding options and superb artisans in Sugamuxi.

Wool, metal, wood, thread, leaves, leather, fabric, coal, cotton, are just some of the types of artistry tools found here in Sugamuxi. Many more artists are ready to be discovered and recognized for their effort and ingenuity.

museums

Sugamuxi hosts one main museum which is Museo Suamox in Sogamoso. This is where a replica of the Muisca Temple of the Sun was built (because it was originally burned down by the Spaniards) and it has an important collection of items from the Muisca culture and traditions of our region. Everything from fossils, mummies, indigenous artifacts, ancient skulls, pottery and much more can be found in this quaint and well-developed community museum.

It is said that the Temple of the Sun located in Sugamuxi and its Suamox Valley (also called the Sun Valley or Valle del Sol) was known as the Chibcha "Rome". This is because religious and sacred events of high importance were collaborated here in this region for all the people of the vast indigenous Muisca territory in the Americas.
