Description:
Mongua is one of the 13 towns of Sugamuxi's province.

Town's full size= 365.5 km2
(around the size of the US Virgin Islands)

Main economic activities: Agriculture, raising livestock, and mining.

According to Muisca culture and language, "Mongua" means: ​land of the rising sun

A peaceful village of land cultivation, Mongua offers artistic stone carvings, the Black Lagoon nature reserve, and the spectacular El Morro de Use, a majestic overlook to all of eastern Colombia.
How to get here:
By bus: From Sogamoso's bus terminal, nearly every half an hour (bus service: Flota Sugamuxi), from 6.00 am until 7.30 pm. There is also a bus stop at Iwoka's shopping centre, north of Sogamoso. The trip takes around 50 minutes to 1 hour (road under maintenance sometimes).

​By car: Follow route 1 Sogamoso - Colegio Gustavo Jiménez - Argos - Tópaga -Mongua; or route 2 Sogamoso - Morcá - Monguí - Tópaga - Mongua.

  • Hosts yearly celebrations that are a genuine and a lovely experience
  • Attractive trekking paths with striking scenery
  • Archaeological museum at The Stone of Santo Domingo hosts monumental artifacts and hieroglyphs of the ancient Muisca culture
  • The Black Lagoon, crystal clear waters that appear dark due to deep vegetation
  • Monumento al Viacrusis, or Way of the Cross religious monument; most visited during Easter.
