Description:
Gámeza is one of the 13 towns of Sugamuxi's province.

Town's full size= 88 km2 (around the size of Anguilla- UK-).

Main economic activities: Agriculture, raising livestock, and mining.

According to Muisca culture and language, "Gámeza" means:  Servant of the sun and moon

Set above canyons and racing rivers, 
Gámeza is h
ome to ancient petroglyphs. It has embraced this cultural aspect with an unforgettable Piedra Pintada, natural painted stone rock zoo.

How to get here:
By bus: From Sogamoso's bus terminal, nearly every hour (bus service: Flota Sugamuxi and/or Cootracero), from 6.00 am until 7.30 pm. There is also a bus stop at Iwoka's shopping centre, north of Sogamoso. The trip takes around 50 minutes.

By car: Follow route 1 Sogamoso - Colegio Gustavo Jiménez - Argos - Tópaga -Mongua - Gámeza; route 2 Sogamoso - Morcá - Monguí - Tópaga - Mongua - Gámeza; or route 3 Sogamoso - Colegio Gustavo Jiménez - Argos - Puente Reyes - Gámeza.

Main attractions:
  • A haven of water sites with rivers such as the Chicamocha and the Gámeza river, various streams, and páramo lakes
  • Petroglyphs, known as the library of the Muisca, along the Chicamocha river; the perfect spot for a swim and a picnic after viewing the ancient, zucos.
  • The town itself has an old world charm that is well preserved and inviting.
  • Eucalyptus forrest and the painted zoo, Piedra Pintada, beginning with a monument replica of the Gámeza church
  • La Piedra Rajada, pyramid shaped rock with over 40 zoomorphic carvings
  • Hosts yearly celebrations 
  • Local cuisine and artisan wool production
  • Attractive trekking paths with archeological finds
