monguí:
"The wife's
             bath"

Monguí

View Monguí in a larger map
Description:
Monguí is one of the 13 towns of Sugamuxi's province.

Town's full size= 70 km2 (a bit bigger than San Marino -Italy-).

Main economic activities: Agriculture, livestock, tourism, and crafts.

According to Muisca culture and language, "Monguí" means: The wife's bath.

Located just a few kilometers away from the bustling center of Sogamoso, the route to Monguí dazzles through the soft mountains.

A charming town in spiritual lands, Monguí, manufactures handmade traditional soccer balls, is blessed by the páramos, and has old world architecture preserved with love.
View: Photos of Monguí.
How to get here:
By bus: From Sogamoso's bus terminal, nearly every half an hour. There is also a bus stop at Iwoka's shopping centre, north of Sogamoso. The trip takes between 40-45 minutes.

By car: Follow route 1 Sogamoso - Colegio Gustavo Jiménez - Argos - Monguí; or route 2 Sogamoso - Morcá - Monguí.

Main attractions:
  • The plaza is wide and sunny (nice in the chilly weather) with walks made of vintage stone and small statues representing Monguí culture
  • Impressive cathedral and complementary capilla capturing the local "green, red, & white" charm
  • Old world Calicanto Bridge and handcrafted architecture
  • Páramo de Ocetá, considered "the most beautiful páramo of the world"
  • Handmade soccer ball manufacturing shops and museum
  • Delicious delicacies of the area: soups with local hearty vegetables, rainbow trout or trucha, breads and pastries, regional cheeses
  • Campesino tinto, black coffee of the people. Colombian rich coffee, all natural panela sweetener, and cinnamon. A treat!
